Ensuring sterilization of laparoscopic surgical instruments in LMICs

The challenge

Cleaning and ensuring the sterilization of Laparoscopic surgical instruments in Low and middle income countries. Laparoscopic tools are expensive. Large numbers of these tools cannot be afforded by hospitals in low resource settings. Hence, more efficient cleaning systems need to be developed that cater to the cleaning of these complex instruments.

The solution

-Redesign certain aspects of the laparoscopic grasper that prevent unnecessary collection of blood and human protein. - maybe certain chemicals to substitute existing chemicals that are expensive - redesign the cleaning and autoclaving process of the laparoscopic devices.
