The challenge
Our ability to understand the externalities and impacts of humanity's technological progress is rapidly falling behind. From climate change threatening our ecosystem to PFOAs threatening our health, corporations "move fast and break things" with little regard for social impact. Researchers need access to as much quality data as possible, which often undermines privacy laws or intellectual property rights. Open source, cryptographically-secured decentralized computing and storage networks are fundamental to privacy rights and the ability to perform research on a global scale without any corporate or institutional interference. Such networks will play a fundamental role in 21st century research and development.
The solution
plAIgrounds is a decentralized, open-source data science research and development organization that aims to consult with businesses and organizations to help them understand their first, second, and third-degree social, environmental, and economic impacts utilizing state-of-the-art data science techniques provided by the open-source and academic communities. These models can be utilized on a secured decentralized network, such that complete ownership and retention of data is cryptographically guaranteed. Data generated from these clients can be utilized by academics to better understand the impacts of technological development, improving their models and sharing their findings with the community for more sustainable development.
